BBC News Online 2001 - 2006
Creative Director of the BBC News Online Product Development team

My Role
Over the course of 5 and a half years at the BBC I transitioned from senior Designer for the News website to Creative Director the UX and Design team for the BBC News Development team.
My team and I were responsible for the user experience of the core product - the BBC News Website, including the major 2003 redesign, as well as the concepting, definition, design and execution of additional websites, products, applications and services, including the BBC News Player - a forerunner to the iPlayer, and the first News Mobile app.
A key project that I lead was the 2003 redesign of the BBC News website - the first major redesign of the website since its launch in 1997
The Challenges of the 2003 BBC News redesign:
Led and facilitated workshops to understand and define the requirements. Working with UX designers from other divisions, web developers and multi disciplinary teams
Devised strategy and concept including a new interface design and taxonomy - Taking the existing page structures and rearchitecting it to simplify an unweildy system for the user and to apply a pattern Language to the visual design.
Post launch the site experienced a unprecedented growth in page clicks per user.
